Centranthus angustifolius, commonly known as narrow-leaved valerian, is a perennial wildflower native to southern Europe. It is distinguished by its slender, lance-shaped leaves and clusters of small, tubular pink to reddish flowers carried on upright stems. The genus name Centranthus comes from Greek, meaning “spurred flower,” referring to the small nectar spur at the back of each bloom. Unlike many meadow plants, this species is adapted to dry, rocky slopes and limestone cliffs, where its deep roots allow it to persist in thin soils. Its graceful form and ability to thrive in harsh, sun-exposed habitats set it apart within the valerian family.
