Cyclamen coum, commonly known as eastern sowbread, is a perennial wildflower native to the eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. It is distinguished by its rounded, often patterned leaves and its delicate, nodding flowers in shades of pink, magenta, or white that bloom in late winter to early spring. The name “sowbread” comes from an old belief that wild pigs ate its tubers. Unlike many early-flowering plants, Cyclamen coum blooms while snow may still cover the ground, providing one of the first splashes of color in the dormant season and an early nectar source for insects.
