Galium uliginosum, commonly known as fen bedstraw, is a perennial wildflower native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is characterized by slender, weak stems with narrow leaves arranged in whorls, and by its small, pale flowers that appear in summer. The species name uliginosum means “of marshes,” reflecting its close association with wet meadows, fens, and boggy ground. Unlike many bedstraws of dry habitats, Galium uliginosum is adapted to waterlogged soils, making it a subtle but distinctive indicator of intact wetland ecosystems.
